They’re going to have a killer summer..

Riley March joins her four best friends on a vacation in Palm Key Island. The friends wanted to enjoy their time before starting college. Big mistake. These friends were the most popular, rich, and arrogant girls that anyone ever knew of, except Riley. She had a secret that she wanted none of the others to know. What she didn’t realize was that, they too had secrets that could end up killing them!

The arrival of a storm cancelled all their plans and made them stuck in their rental with no electricity and water. That is when secrets about Jordyn Chang, their ex-bestfriend who killed herself last year, started bringing havoc into their lives.

I selected this book after reading the blurb and I did expect a lot, but I’m delighted to say that this book exceeded my expectations! Every moment of the story was full of suspense and twists that it was impossible to guess what might happen next.

I have to say that all the action of the book is in the second half. The first half is where we are introduced to the five friends – Riley, Nia, Blake, and the twins, Cam and Val. Their opinions and their personalities are shown then. Along with them , their guy friends were also introduced and the relationship that they shared was also shown. The first half was definitely like reading a happy trip with friends. Even when the first half didn’t have much going on, it was interesting to read as many details about what might happen were given. The warning about the storm, myth about the rental house, and the death of Jordyn Chang were introduced as snippets of information in the first half.

The second half started with that of the storm and the missing of one of the girls. From then on, the friends can be seen together in the rental with no way to contact anyone else. The spooky factor behind the house was also narrated during this time.

It was like reading a horror novel for some time. My heart was beating furiously and even small noises were able to startle me. I even thought that everything that was happening was done by a ghost! Obviously, I was wrong.

When the ending arrived and everything was revealed, I was shocked, because it wasn’t what I expected. I always tend to wait until the end to check whether I was right in guessing the story. I like it when I’m wrong and here too, that was the case.

The story was a mix of psychological thriller and horror. I have to say that the two genres were perfectly blended to create this story.
